Beginning Suzuki violin in elementary school, Katie cannot remember life before the violin. She received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Southern Methodist University and her Master of Music in Suzuki Pedagogy and Violin Performance with Mark Bjork at the University of Minnesota. Upon completing her degree, she became faculty at MacPhail Center for Music (Minneapolis) where she taught and coordinated the Suzuki string groups and orchestras until moving to Holland, Michigan in 2013. In Holland, Katie maintains a Suzuki studio, is assistant concertmaster of the Holland Symphony and is a member of the West Michigan Symphony. Her other Suzuki mentors include Pat D’Ercole, Ann Montzka Smelser, Alice Joy Lewis, Katherine Wood, Allen Lieb, Cathryn Lee, Teri Einfeldt, Christie Felsing and Beth Titterington. In 2019, Katie was awarded the Certificate of Achievement Level I by the SAA. Katie is a Suzuki parent of two children (a cellist and violinist), and considers that part of her on going training.
