Stephen Power first encountered Suzuki piano in 1981 during Dr. Kataoka's second visit to the UK. In 1983 he was one of the first Graduates under the European Suzuki Association system, having studied with the late Anne Turner, and Ruth Miura. 1984 he received a scholarship to spend three months in Japan with Dr. Suzuki and Dr Kataoka: followed by further study periods in 1987 and 1990.

1994 Stephen was appointed an ESA teacher trainer. 1999-2001 directed teacher training for the BSI. Due to his interest in Spanish music, 2007-2009 Stephen was invited by the Spanish Suzuki Federation to start a piano teacher training programme in Spain. Currently he offers long term teacher training based on his studio in Cambridge, UK, and introductory courses at the 'Cambridge Suzuki Young Musicians' Summer School.

His teaching practice, 'Cambridge Suzuki Young Musicians', aims to develop all round musicians and is a joint Suzuki and Kodaly programme. Disciplines such as composition, chamber music, 4 piano and 2 piano work, are part of the mix for the annual Summer School. Premiered at Summer School over the last decade, CSYM has commissioned some 11 works (mainly for 2 or 4 pianos), from 9 leading British composers, with composers Graham Fitkin & Colin Matthews writing several works for us.

Continuing the involvement with new music and Spanish repertoire, more recently students have been prizewinners at International piano competitions for 20th and 21st century music, and given concerts in Budapest, Barcelona, and Madrid (in partnership with the Fundacion Rodrigo & Conservatorio Turina, featuring the music of Maestro Rodrigo) .
