Dear Suzuki Family,

Idell Low

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Idell Low, SMPLA Director Emeritus. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 16th. We will keep you informed of the details of the funeral services as they become available.

Idell Low founded the Suzuki Music Program of Los Angeles with Elizabeth Mills in 1974, and was its Director for almost 40 years. She served as Director Emeritus for the last few years. Literally thousands of students all over the country can trace their musical “ancestry” back to Idell personally, and/or to SMPLA. In addition, she was a long-time SAA member and registered SAA Teacher Trainer.

She loved music, she loved children, she loved her family, and her resilient spirit, determination, and grit helped form a strong foundation from which sprang many fine musicians, and fine human beings influenced by the Suzuki philosophy.

Mrs. Low’s family asked us to let you know that the services for Idell will be this Wednesday, January 20th, at 1:00 p.m. at Eden Memorial Park, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, CA 91345, 818-361-7161. They would like you to know that this will be “an open service where anyone and everyone is welcomed.”

And to use the phrase that Idell invented….”Musically yours,”
