Event Description
This class is for advanced Suzuki teachers, interested college students, and advanced performers. No pre-requiste, but the participants should be able to play the works listed below. SAA members can register the class as an enrichment course and plan to do student observations June 15-20, 2015. All participants must be high school graduates.
This will be a 15 hour class that will focus on the following works:
Sonata in G minor BWV 1001
1. Adagio
2. Fuga
3. Siciliana
4. Presto
Partita in D minor BWV 1004
1. Allemanda
2. Corrente
3. Sarabanda
4. Giga
Partita No. 3 in E major, BWV 1006
1. Preludio
2. Loure
3. Gavotte en Rondeau
6. Giga
We will look at the works form a performance and analytical perspective and define in great depth the best ways for teaching these great pieces. Registration available on the ISSI website in January, class limit 25.
*Michael McLean presented a similar class at the Starling-DeLay Symposium at Juilliard two years ago.

Trainer Information
Michael McLean is an internationally noted composer, violinist, and pedagogue based in Los Angeles. On the faculty at The Colburn School of Performing Arts as a violinist and conductor, he also maintains a lively career as a composer of orchestral, chamber, and film music. He studied violin and composition at Northwestern University and film scoring at the University of Southern California. He has taught violin at the Music Institute of Chicago and at Texas Christian University. Mr. McLean is a popular guest clinician at workshops and institutes throughout the country. An active member of the SAA, he has studied Suzuki pedagogy with Yuko Honda, Barbara Barber, and John Kendall. Mr. McLean has written more than one hundred compositions and has recorded four CDs, Care to Tango?, New World, Pieces, and Kokoro. His Violin Concerto, Elements, was recorded by Brian Lewis and the London Symphony Orchestra and was released by Delos in 2006.
