Event Description

The Suzuki Violin Book 7 teacher training course is an advanced program designed to further elevate the expertise of Suzuki violin instructors. This course focuses on the in-depth exploration of the content and pedagogy contained in Suzuki Violin Book 7, delving into advanced techniques, intricate bowings, and the sophisticated repertoire featured in this book. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex musical concepts and techniques required to teach the pieces effectively. Emphasis is placed on developing refined tone, musical interpretation, and advanced violin skills, equipping instructors with the knowledge and tools needed to guide their students as they tackle challenging compositions and refine their mastery of the instrument. Upon completion of this course, teachers will be well-prepared to help their students navigate the intricate and rewarding world of the Suzuki Violin Book 7, nurturing their musical talents to the fullest extent.

In-person observations will be completed on-site by observing SoundWaves (July 20-27).

Prerequisite course:

Viola Unit 3, or Violin Unit 3

Audition: Violin Intermediate, or Violin Comprehensive.

Trainer Information

Ruth Meints

Ruth Meints is the Executive Director of the Omaha Conservatory of Music (OCM) since 2005 and authored the String Sprouts curriculum, a program for preschoolers in underserved areas. She teaches violin/viola at OCM and conducts frequent workshops in pedagogy and music education, integrating current neuroscience findings into music teaching. At OCM, she has created many music programs, such as Summer Institutes, Winter Festival Orchestra, a full music program at the St. Augustine Indian Mission School, and Inside the Mind of the Artist recital and master class series.  

In 2016, Ruth was given the Governor’s Arts Award for excellence in arts education in Nebraska. She has also presented a TedXOmaha talk entitled “Music, Preschoolers, and Poverty.”

Ruth received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her Master of Music degree with an emphasis in Suzuki pedagogy from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville under the mentorship of John Kendall.
