Cellist Susanna Giles performs throughout New York City in a diverse range of venues including Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, the Brooklyn Art Song Society, Art House Productions Theater, and St. Bartholomew’s Church. A frequent collaborator, she has performed with Bernard Greenhouse, the Tokyo String Quartet, Emmanuele Baldini, the Mimesis Ensemble, the Sheep Island Ensemble, the Azlo Chamber Orchestra, and the Bloomington Camerata Orchestra, among others. As an orchestral musician, she has performed under conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Leonard Slatkin, Steven Smith, David Effron, and Michael Christi.

Passionate about sharing her love of music, Ms. Giles approaches the study and experience of music as a tool with great potential to enrich life. Her teaching focuses on developing the whole musician through establishing a nurturing learning environment, and cultivating the physical and inner tools necessary to enable musical expression. She holds a private studio in Manhattan, and teaches at the Lucy Moses School at the Kaufman Music Center and The Chapin School. She is a former faculty member at the Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College.

Ms. Giles completed the long-term Suzuki Teacher Training course with Pamela Devenport at School for Strings in New York City. Additional Suzuki training was with Carey Beth Hockett, David Evenchick, Nancy Hair, and Edmund Sprunger. Ms. Giles studied cello performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
