Born and raised in Seattle, harpist Sophie Baird-Daniel can be heard performing around the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in addition to her native Pacific Northwest. She began harp lessons at the age of eight (before her feet could reach the ground from her harp bench!), then went on to receive two degrees in harp performance from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory in Toronto. Her principal teachers have included Judy Loman, Valerie Muzzolini, Jessica Zhou, and Nancy Allen. Now back in Seattle, Sophie can be heard performing around the region with the Seattle Symphony, San Francisco Ballet, and many other ensembles. Sophie is also the director and founder of the Archipelago Collective, a chamber music festival that brings world-class musicians to San Juan Island for a week of music and education.

As a teacher, Sophie’s primary goal is to instill the love and excitement for music that she herself feels. The harp is a wonderful instrument for students of all ages, and is an excellent medium for expression, musicality, and individuality. Students are encouraged to reach their full potential by pursuing any genre that excites them, from pop to classical to celtic and folk traditions. Sophie is a certified Suzuki harp teacher.
