Mark Martin was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI where he started studying piano at age 6 and violin at age 10. He is currently on the violin faculty at Suzuki Royal Oak Institute of Music. He was also on staff and taught classes at Oxford Community Schools and helped run the Pre-School through 3rd Grade Suzuki Strings Orchestra Program for 5 years. He was introduced to Suzuki his 3rd year of college when Geri Arnold brought her tour group to perform during an orchestra class. It inspired him from that point forward to become the Suzuki teacher he is today. He received his Bachelors degree in violin performance at Grand Valley State University studying under distinguished violinist, Dylana Jenson. He went on for his Master’s degree on a graduate assistantship in Suzuki Pedagogy at Ithaca College studying under former SAA president Sanford (Sandy) Reuning who studied with Dr. Suzuki in Japan. He has one recording with the Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble where he was the violinist of the critically acclaimed Innova Records 2007 recording of Steve Reich’s “Music For 18 Musicians.” 

Along with being a violinist and a teacher, he is on staff at Evola Music as a piano sales associate. He is also a state-certified Michigan DNR Hunter Safety Instructor. He enjoys the outdoors, scuba diving, ballroom dancing, and swing dancing. He is involved in various young adult ministries around the area and enjoys playing with the Archdioceses of Detroit’s praise and worship band “Islands of Mercy.“
