Mrs. Maria Berenice Hoyos
Cello Teacher
About Me
With more than 30 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal Cellist for the Camellia Symphony in Sacramento and I am a cellist at the Symphony Napa Valley Orchestra. I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin lessons to my students in Napa and Sacramento.
My professional performing and teaching experience began in Medellin, Colombia in 1985 with the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra where I was their Soloist beginning in 1992 and later on, as First Cello, from 1998-2002.
Finally, I settled in Sacramento in 2003, coming here to earn my Master’s Degree in Cello Performance while performing throughout the next year with the California State University, Sacramento Symphony.
I have also performed with the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra and several other chamber groups.
At this time, I am teaching all levels of cello. My students range in age from five to seventy years and enjoy learning in a relaxing environment.
I incorporate several teaching styles to meet each student’s individual needs and abilities.
