Leah Hoffman is a Seattle native and has been teaching violin and viola at the Suzuki Institute of Seattle since 2006. She has completed Suzuki training courses with Cathy Lee, Allen Lieb, Joseph Kaminsky, Ed Sprunger, Joanne Melvin and Judy Bossuat. Leah was the viola coach for Marrowstone in the City, a day camp run by the Seattle Youth Symphonies for eleven years. She coached viola sectionals for Seattle Youth Symphony’s Debut and Junior Symphonies from 2005-2011. She joined NOCCO (North Coast Chamber Orchestra) in 2017 and performs on both violin and viola. From 2001-2005 she was a member of the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas in Miami Beach, Florida. Leah earned her Master’s degree in viola performance from Rice University (2001) and her Bachelor’s degree in viola performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music (1997). Her main teachers have been Wayne Brooks, Heidi Castleman, Mark Jackobs and Martin Friedman. She studied chamber music with Peter Salaff, Paul Katz, Anne Epperson and the Cavani String Quartet.
