Mr. Ken Zeller
Piano Teacher, Parent, Student
Ken began lessons at age four on the accordion and soon switched to the piano. It was at a very early age he realized the advantages of hear and play learning and has worked to develop even greater fluency in this area ever since. The opportunity to teach Suzuki-style came when his first child began kindergarten at Suzuki Charter School. This K-6 school integrates academics with Suzuki music education. Ken’s Suzuki teacher training commenced with Every Child Can and Book One with Dr. Merlin Thompson at the 2006 Edmonton Summer Suzuki institute and he has since completed several practicums, Music Reading and Group Teaching classes through Holy Names University, Suzuki Principles in Action and Suzuki teacher training in books 2 thru 7. He’s been fortunate to have worked with distinguished Suzuki teacher trainers such as Marilyn Anderson in Montreal, Quebec, Caroline Fraser in Chicago, IL and Oakland, CA and Gail Lange in Edmonton. Ken’s wife, DeLee, is a grade four teacher at Suzuki Charter School. Together, they have raised their children in music immersion and continue to support their musical education. Ken’s credentials and areas of study include a Diploma in Jazz Piano Performance from the Edmonton Grant MacEwan College Performing Arts Campus, Royal Conservatory of Music Level 10 and 4th Dan black belt with the World Taekwondo Federation. You may also see Ken teaching a Taekwondo junior class through the Edmonton Paralympic Sports Association. His studio is located in southeast (Millwoods) Edmonton.
