Now in his 19th year of teaching, Karles McQuade holds a double B.Mus., magna cum laude, in Violin Performance and Violin Pedagogy, from the University of New Mexico, as well as a B.A. in physics from Oberlin College. He is a trained and registered Suzuki instructor in Violin Books 1 through 10.

Karles has studied violin with Carmelo de los Santos, David Felberg, Susan Kempter, and Veronique Marcel. He’s also studied baroque violin with Marilyn McDonald, Rachel Podger, Elizabeth Blumenstock, Robert Mealy, Patricia Ahern, and Evan Few.

Karles is a founding member of the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association. In addition to his seven years of student membership, Karles also worked at SFYSA for eight years in a range of capacities including Board Member, Artistic Director, Elementary Strings Director, and Conductor of both the Prelude and Intermezzo String Orchestras.

Besides teaching, Karles has held other random jobs including graveyard-shift cab-driver in Santa Fe and research assistant at the Arecibo Radio Telescope Observatory in Puerto Rico. His favorite chord and ice cream is Neapolitan.
