Kaitlin Smedley is a violinist from Jacksonville, Florida, that received a bachelor’s degree in music performance at Stetson University. Her work experience includes performances with Simon Carrington at Stetson University, the Piano Guys at the Florida Theatre, as well as performing and contracting gigs in northeast, central Florida, and southeast Georgia.During her undergraduate studies, Kaitlin was the first violinist of the endowed Barron String Quartet and served as concertmaster of the Stetson University Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Opera Orchestra under Maestro Anthony Hose. She has performed solo recitals in the U.S., Norway, and Italy and has performed at the Curtis Institute of Music, Florida State University, Voksenåsen Musik Academy, Toneheim Folkehøgskole, Stetson University, The Florida Theatre (Jacksonville, FL), and Performing Arts Center in Vipiteno, Italy.Besides performing, her passion is also to bring classical music to places and people that would not normally have an opportunity to be exposed to the art. Since her high school years, Kaitlin has been heavily involved in combining music and philanthropy by going to the Jacksonville-area senior living facilities, hospitals, and elementary schools to perform solo chamber ensemble performances for the residents.She is a recipient of the Barron endowed string quartet scholarship, the Duckwitz Talent scholarship, the Marshall E. Rinker Sr. Endowment Scholarship, the Marion J. Givens Scholarship for the Barron String Quartet, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, and received second place at the Orfeo International Music Competition in July of 2017. Her repertoire includes Bach, Mozart, Saint-Saens, Wieniawski, Paganini, Prokofiev, and Lutoslawski. She has premiered works for composers Loni Hevia and Kristian Gonzalez. An avid chamber musician, Smedley has collaborated with fellow students and faculty for numerous recitals featuring a wide range of music from the standard repertoire to modern and contemporary commissioned works.Smedley is currently a graduate student of music education at Boston University. She teaches piano, viola, and violin. Her schedule is currently packed with teaching, gigging, contracting, studying, and practicing.
