Jonathan Carbin is an adventurous and versatile professional cellist based in Austin, Texas. An avid chamber musician, Jonathan serves on the faculty of the Austin Chamber Music Center and frequently collaborates with artists from Austin and across the country. Recent projects have included concerts throughout Texas with his trio, Triple Take (with violinist Javier Chaparro and pianist Maimy Fong), premiering newly composed works for voice and cello with his brother Christopher Carbin in Missouri, New York, and Vermont, and collaborating with Rolling Stone acclaimed Jesse Woods in performances in Austin, New York, and Los Angeles. Highlights of the 2014-15 season include serving as artistic director for the Silver Lake Chamber Music Festival in Vermont and concerts in Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania with Kludge, an innovative duo with Sam Wells that explores the possibilities of cello, trumpet, and electronic media. As an orchestral player, Jonathan has performed with the symphonies of Austin, Corpus Christi, Victoria, Laredo, and Round Rock.
Among his former teachers and mentors are world-class artists Joshua Gindele (of the Miró Quartet), Carter Enyeart, and Gregory Sauer. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and a master’s degree in performance from University of Texas at Austin.
Jonathan takes great pride in the accomplishments of his private cello students, which include countless regional and statewide accolades and acceptances to nationally and internationally renowned festivals and workshops.
