John Samonte, a vocalist and violinist, is currently pursuing his Masters degree at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he is enrolled in the Music and Music Education program. Raised in Levittown, NY, John began studying the violin at the age of 12. After graduating magna cum laude from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, he became the choral director/violin instructor at Aquebogue Elementary School in Riverhead, NY, as well as co-directed Riverhead High School’s theatre/musical group, the Blue Masques. He currently teaches at the Mattituck-Cutchogue Union Free School District, teaching grades 3-6.

As a trained Suzuki teacher, John fosters a nurturing environment where he places a strong emphasis on Dr. Suzuki’s teaching principles and philosophies, which are carried through his classroom and ensembles. He is also a member of the NAfME, NYSSMA, SCMEA, SAA, AOSA, OAKE, FAME, and LIOASA organizations.

As a violinist, he has participated in many community orchestras and currently plays in the Teachers Quartet. He has trained with Carrie Reuning-Hummel, John Lindsey, Leiann McGrory, and David Pittman-Jennings. Currently, John is pursuing long-term Suzuki teacher training and has completed trainings at the Westchester Suzuki School and the Hartt School of Music. In addition to his Suzuki training, he has completed his Orff-Schulwerk Level 1, First Steps in Music, and Conversational Solfege training at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY.
