Heidi Burns (maiden name Ohngemach) began playing the violin at the age of ten. She went on to study Music Education at Western Connecticut State University. While in college, Heidi maintained the position of Concertmaster of the WCSU Orchestra for her last three years of studies, played in chamber ensembles, and was a finalist for the James Furman Honors Recital Competition in 2019. During her time at WCSU, Heidi studied violin under Patti Kilroy and Hafez Taghavi, and took secondary lessons on cello with Marcia Wiley, and upright bass with Kevin Callaghan.

Since graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Heidi has become the orchestra teacher at Newtown Middle School, and maintains a private studio teaching students from Fairfield to Middlebury.

Heidi’s greatest joy in teaching is seeing the look on her student’s faces when everything is finally starting to come together, no matter what stage of playing the violin they are at, and she wants every child to experience that feeling.
