Gabriele Thielmann-Vriend is an Edmonton based violinist specializing in both classical and baroque teaching and performance. She holds a Master of Music degree from McGill University, a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia, and an Associate of the Royal Conservatory (ARCT) performer’s diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Gabriele has pursued baroque studies primarily in Toronto with members of the internationally recognized Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.

Gabriele was a two-time winner of the Northern Alberta Concerto Competition and gave her orchestral debut as a concerto soloist in 2007 in Edmonton’s Winspear Centre. She has performed as concertmaster of the National Youth Orchestra Canada, UBC Symphony Orchestra, West Coast Symphony, and Edmonton Youth Orchestras. In 2013, Gabriele travelled to Bangalore, India with select members of NYOC alumni to participate in the first ever Canada-India Youth Orchestra project.

Gabriele has been a recipient of many scholarships over the years. Of particular note are the Winspear Fund and Ranald and Vera Shean Memorial Scholarships, granted through the Edmonton Community Foundation. In addition, she received a UBC faculty nomination for the Premier Undergraduate and Wesbrook Scholarships, and was a recipient of Alberta’s coveted Arts Graduate Scholarship in 2014.

Gabriele enjoys teaching violin to students of various ages and levels, and performs regularly with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Alberta Baroque Ensemble and Early Music Alberta.
