Emily Anne Bowman is an active performer and educator and especially enjoys working with young musicians! Emily Bowman joined the faculty of Boulder Suzuki Strings in 1997 and teaches violin, viola and fiddle. Emily did her long term Suzuki teacher training and continues to be inspired by William Starr. Emily serves as Artistic Director of the Greater Boulder Youth Orchestras and conducts the Philharmonic. Emily teaches violin, viola and orchestra grades 3-12 at Shining Mountain Waldorf School. Emily was recognized with the “Exemplary Teacher” award in Colorado four times by the American Strings Teachers Association. In addition to her active teaching schedule, Emily performs with Seicento Baroque Ensemble and is a regular member of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado. Interested in sharing her love and enthusiasm for baroque performance practice Emily presented “An Introduction to Baroque Style Ornamentation and Improvisation: a Participatory Workshop” at the Suzuki Association of the Americas conference in May of 2012, assisted by BSS teacher and BCOC violinist Stacey Brady. In addition, Emily performs with the Free Range String Quartet, the Eldorado String Quartet and joins The Bowmans whenever she can. Emily received her formal classical training from the New World School of the Arts and the University of Colorado College of Music. Emily graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Viola Performance and was the recipient of the Gabor Ormai Viola Award. Emily lives in beautiful Boulder, Colorado with her husband and two cats. She delights in eating and spending time outdoors.
