Elisabeth Sims
Violin, Viola Teacher
Elisabeth Sims is a teacher and performer of violin and viola in the Salt Lake City area. She has a love of teaching music to people of all ages both privately and in group settings. She is a firm believer that “Every Child Can” and always seeks to create an uplifting and encouraging environment for her students.
Elisabeth received her Bachelors in Commercial Music with an emphasis in violin performance at Snow College. During her time there, she had the opportunity to study with violinists Sara Gunnel, Jack Ashton, and David Park of the Utah Symphony. She had the privilege of serving as the concertmaster of the Snow College Symphony Orchestra. Elisabeth also participated in the Snow College String Quartet and Chamber Orchestra. In addition to performing, she taught group classes and private lessons to students from elementary school ages to high school with the Badger Strings Project.
After graduating from Snow College, Elisabeth taught violin group and music theory classes at American Preparatory Academy in West Valley City, Utah. She has also received training for Book 1 of the Suzuki method under Christie Felsing.
Elisabeth is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in violin performance and pedagogy at the University of Utah. She studies violin with Dr. Hasse Borup and viola with Julie Edwards of the Utah Symphony. She plays viola in the Michie Graduate String Quartet as well as playing violin in the Utah Philharmonia Orchestra.
Outside of school, Elisabeth frequently freelances with the Salt Lake String Quartet in venues such as weddings, funerals, and other events. When not playing violin or viola, Elisabeth enjoys reading, running, and spending time with her husband and cat.
