David Klein received his degrees from the University of Connecticut (BFA) and from Michigan State University (MM). His teachers have included Richard Illman, Ross Beacraft, Arnold Jacobs, Daniel Patrylak, and Mel Broiles. David has been teaching in mid-Michigan since 1997 and has performed several jazz groups and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. His klezmer band, Heartland Klezmorim, has performed throughout Michigan & Indiana. David has presented sessions at the conference of the International Trumpet Guild, the first lecture was about playing trumpet in klezmer bands (2012—Georgia) and the second lecture was about the use of the trumpet, cornet, and flugelhorn in folk & traditional music (2015—Ohio).
Very often, David can be seen performing klezmer with his wife, Suzuki violin teacher Dr. Susanne Garber.
