Chris Chandler is an avid supporter of Suzuki’s approach to music education and has taught for 21 years. His Pennsylvania studio (Reading, PA) consists of students young and old, with private and group lessons, string quartets, plus recitals. Established under Chandler Music Studio, it continues to prepare students for what they need.
A student of Linda Wear Fiore, he has obtained a Music Education degree from Southern Adventist University in Tennessee and is registered with the SAA in Violin Books 1-8 plus Piano Books 1-3, 6 and 7. He has led Suzuki string performances before audiences of 1,000+ and will accept students of all ages and playing levels.
In 1991, he had the privilege of observing Dr. Suzuki teach in his Matsumoto studio. He has had group lessons with Dr. Suzuki, and as a 6th grader, performed with a group of violin students on AM Philadelphia, a morning news show, as Dr. Suzuki was interviewed. Today, he performs for local orchestras and chamber groups and accompanies all students on their recitals.
His teachers in Suzuki training have included Mary Craig Powell for piano, Susan Kempter, Enid Cleary, Vera McCoy-Sulentic, Nancy Jackson, Ed Sprunger, Kimberly Meier-Sims, Nancy Lokken and Allen Lieb for violin.
Students in the Reading area are winning scholarships for lessons and performing solo recitals three+ times per year. He has strong support from parents.
Students have performed at the Harrisburg State Capitol, the Center for the Arts in Reading, area churches and nursing homes, plus with the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra and Junior Strings Orchestra, and the Chester County Youth Orchestra. Recently, two of his students participated in the Pennsylvania All-State Orchestra and one student in both the All-Eastern Orchestra at Eastman and the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra.
