Cecilia Calvelo-Hopkins is a Suzuki violin teacher, a SECE teacher, and a Suzuki parent. She holds music degrees from the University of Houston and San Francisco State University and studied violin and strings pedagogy with Szymsia Bajour, Cathy Meng Robinson, Felicia Moye, and Andrzej Grabiec. In the summer of 2018, and after living 9 years in Austin, Cecilia and her family have relocated to Valencia, Spain where they are starting a new life! Cecilia has over 20 years of teaching experience and continues to collaborate with the Latin American division of the SAA. She has completed extensive Suzuki training in the US, Brazil, and Europe with Cahy Lee, Donna Lim, Yuko Honda, Barbara Barber, Alice Joy Lewis, Dr. Laurie Scott, and Nancy Jackson. She has served as faculty for the School “Cuatro Cuerdas” in Madrid, Spain, the Perú International Suzuki Festival, Monterrey Suzuki Festival, Greater Austin Suzuki Institute, Spanish National Course in Málaga, she has been a guest lecturer/speaker at the SAA Minneapolis Conferences since 2012 and has served for 5 years on the board of the Greater Austin Suzuki Association. Cecilia loves languages and speaks Spanish, English, Italian, and Portuguese, and edited the latest translation to Spanish of Shinichi Suzuki’s “Nurtured by Love” that Summy-Birchard printed in 2004. She is an active member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas, the American String Teachers Association, and the Texas Music Educators Association.
