Cate Howard undergraduate studies at the New School of Music, Philadelphia, completing her degree program at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa; LMus Violin Performance and Pedagogy. LMus Performance Diploma Trinity College, London. Graduate studies with Jascha Brodsky in Philadelphia, and Igor Ozim in Cologne Germany. Suzuki training with Linda Fiore, Teri Einfeldt, Christophe Bossuat, Ronda Cole, and Linda Case. Cate has been an active teacher, orchestral and chamber music performer in South Africa, the New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania areas, Germany, Boston, Tanzania, and South Carolina. Director of the String Arts School of Concord for 17 years, faculty of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School in Boston since 2001. Cate has played and organized numerous African benefit concerts for the building of clinics, improved education opportunities, and the prevention of AIDS; in recognition of this work she received the 2007 Daniel Orjiako Foundation Award. In November 2008 Cate published her first book How the Violin Plays the Violinist. 2010 recipient of the Massachusetts American String Teachers Association “studio teacher of the year”. Currently director of Galloway Violin Studio / Galloway Suzuki Group in southwestern Scotland.
Cate also has training in Brain Gym, Reiki, and practices Vinyasa Yoga.
