Dr. Catalina Barraza pursued her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Michigan State University in violin performance with Dr. Walter Verdehr. She earned her Master of Music degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and her bachelor’s degree from Pontifical Javeriana University in her home city Bogota, Colombia.

Dr. Barraza is Assistant Professor of Violin/Viola at San José State University, California. She has served as a violin teacher in the Overture Program from the Sphinx Organization and the String Team from the Jackson Community Music School in Michigan. In addition, Dr. Barraza conducted the Mason Philharmonic Orchestra, located in the Lansing area. In the summer time, she is a faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. As a performer, Dr. Barraza has an extensive orchestra and chamber music experience. She has performed with orchestras around Michigan, Colombia National Symphony Orchestra, among many others. She has performed throughout her native Colombia, Unite States, Israel and Spain.
