Candida Wurman Yoshikai began to play the violin at age 5, one of four children of European musicians. She studied traditionally with Joseph Golan, Principal Second of the Chicago Symphony and Joseph’s teacher, Pedagogue George Perlman, sometime before the arrival of Suzuki Method to the US. Candida’s mother, Brenda Wurman, became a well known and loved early violin and viola teacher of the Suzuki Method in Oak Park and the Chicago area since 1968. Candida went on to study at the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan with Dr. Suzuki from 1982—1986, graduating from the teacher training program after a 3.5 year study. Influenced greatly by Dr. Suzuki’s training and relationship, as well as her traditional roots, Candida has taught violin since 1986 in Israel, Oak Park, Il., Salt Lake City, Ut., Olympia, Wa. and 2003—2022, in Durham/Chapel Hill, NC. Candida’s husband, luthier Shinichiro Yoshikai services string players and makes stringed instruments at his violin shop, Sunset Hills Studio, in Greensboro, NC, where Candida resides with her family.
