Amy Wilhelm

Amy Wilhelm is a violinist who graduated from Weber State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Music Education/Instrumental Education. She then trained in gifted and talented education at Utah State University. She has taught violin students of all ages, learning styles, and personalities since 1986 and has worked as a middle school special education aide and an orchestra teacher in public schools. Amy has a 5-star rating on Google. Her student’s parents describe her as " patient and kind, teaching every aspect of musicianship, music skills, culture, proper technique, and sound."

Amy has had a couple of students continue studying post-studio and graduate from prominent universities with doctorate degrees in music. Her primary philosophy aligns with Shinichi Suzuki’s " every child can." Every child/person is brilliant, and there are many ways of learning. Amy adapts to individuals’ learning styles and continually innovates best practices. The study of music with Amy enriches and balances the lives of her students.

Amy grew to love music growing up with her parents, musicians Ferril and Deanne Muir. In preparation for a violin teaching career, she studied violin performance with Janice Miller, Michael Palumbo, Richard Stout, Nancy Johnson, and Shi-Hwa Wang. Amy also has vocal/choral experience, studied music theory and composition with Paul Joines and Thomas Root, and conducted with Michael Palumbo and Ronald Wooden. Amy is working to sharpen her pedagogical skills by taking a Fundamentals Fitness Seminar with Rebecca McFaul and Suzuki Teacher Training Courses.

While in school, Amy held leadership positions in several performing groups; Weber State Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, The Renaissance Chamber Ensemble, the Alla Breve String Quartet, and in teacher organizations; the American String Teachers Association and Music Educators National Conference. She earned the " Outstanding Academic Musician" award for her college graduating class for five straight years for her work in musical composition, theory, performance, and pedagogical research.

Through the years, Amy has performed as a member of the Rocky Mountain Symphony, the Utah Youth Symphony, the Mormon Youth Symphony, the Salt Lake Symphony, the New American Symphony, the Cache Chamber Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra Ogden. She serves her church and community by performing and teaching music regularly and volunteering in various ways, including being treasurer for the Cache Valley String Festival. She and her husband, Todd, have been married since 1988, have raised seven children, and currently enjoy 14 grandchildren.
