Hi there!

My students call me “Ms. Alissa”. I maintain a large private studio (ABQstrings) in Albuquerque with students of all ages in violin and viola. Currently, I am the music teacher at both Altura Preparatory Elementary and Our Montessori Preschool. I enjoy playing gigs, giving presentations, city-wide festival judging and sectional coaching too.

I started as an apprentice teacher at Northern Arizona University in 1998 and have been encouraging students ever since. That’s where I received my music degree. I have gone on to complete many hours of professional development in teaching excellence and alternative styles also.

My students are in all levels of our local Youth Symphony program and past students have accomplished both scholarship and even conservatory level work. ABQstrings’ musicians participate in their school orchestras, give regular recitals and perform for events.

I am is a past recipient of the “Emerging String Teacher of the Year” award for the state of Nevada from the American String Teachers’ Association. I have also received community awards for my outreach programs. I am most proud of the award I received from my student’s Highschool for being a “Teacher of a Lifetime”.

In my spare time, my husband and I travel, attend concerts, expand the record collection, read, camp and play with our dog Stitch!

I look forward to our musical journey together…
