Creating the Future 2017

Creating the Future 2017 will be the theme of the SAA’s 12th Biennial Leadership Retreat! SAA retreats provide participants an opportunity to get to get to know colleagues in a unique setting with inspiring sessions, time for sharing, learning, and maybe a little bit of outdoor activity in a restful location.

Sessions are planned for teachers and Suzuki leaders in most Suzuki instrument areas. Meetings and sharing sessions will be offered for Teacher Trainers, Institute Directors, Chapter leaders, the 2018 Conference Team, and other groups. All members are welcome. The Retreat offers unique opportunities for enhancing your leadership skills and getting acquainted with other SAA colleagues. Through your participation, you will be help shape the future of Suzuki education in the Americas!

Location

Deer Creek Lodge, a 3,100 acre resort park, is located in central Ohio, about 45 minutes south of Columbus.

The facility is part of the Ohio State Parks and includes a modern, spacious lodge, nice scenery, and great meeting and recreational facilities. The lodge offers a variety of guest room styles that will accommodate our needs. Rates are quite reasonable. Individual cabins are also available. This setting will be especially welcoming for accompanying families and spouses!

Retreat Overview

Everyone is encouraged to arrive on Wednesday evening, May 24.

A special violin/viola (a pedagogy session with Almita Vamos) and a special Cello session (details coming) are planned for Thursday morning alongside other additional offerings. After lunch, we will offer additional Teacher Trainer sessions, Chapter affiliate sessions and various breakout sessions.

Activities run daily from 8:30 AM through dinner, followed by special after-dinner activities each evening. All sessions and activities (with the exception of some new Trainer activities) will conclude at 11:30 AM, Sunday, May 28.

Bring your instrument and stand if at all possible. The weekend is filled with opportunities for violins, violas, cellos and guitars to make music together!
