School for Strings
New York, NY
The School for Strings’ Teacher Training Seminars are organized as two-year courses. Each seminar is offered as a graduate-level course at the Juilliard School and an undergraduate course at the New York University.
In the first year, students meet for weekly seminars and observe lessons and classes. In the second year, Seminar members become the faculty in the School for Strings’ Start-Up Program, a program for children who cannot afford the School’s regular rates. Seminar members give individual lessons to the students in the program and rotate leading group-playing classes.
Students who successfully complete the two-year course are able to register with the SAA as teachers who have fulfilled the Association’s training requirements. The School issues each graduate an open Letter of Recommendation. All candidates must be able to competently perform repertoire beyond the level of the published Suzuki materials. Admission is based on an audition/interview with the Director of the School.
