Event Description

Every Child Can! logoEvery Child Can! an introductory course on the Suzuki philosophy and its application to education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. For teachers, ECC serves as the first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas Teacher Development Program. To learn more, read about the ECC course and its guidelines.

Trainer Information

Avi Friedlander

Well known as a Suzuki cello workshop and institute clinician, Avi Friedlander teaches a variety of methods from classical to jazz and rock. He is the director of the Barston Suzuki Center at the Music Institute of Chicago, a Suzuki teacher trainer, Director of Suzuki Pedagogy at Roosevelt University and teaches string pedagogy at the University of North Florida and Northwestern University. His primary teachers have included Anthony Elliott, Stephen Geber, Irene Sharp, Tanya Carey and David Premo and he has also worked with Richard Aaron, Hans Jensen, Janos Starker and Bernard Greenhouse. Mr. Friedlander has studied improvisation methods with Eugene Friesen, Stephan Braun and Tim Kliphuis. In addition to his own compositions, Mr. Friedlander is the author of his method books, “chopping around” and “pizzing around”, which introduce alternative styles to cellist.  On top of his cello teaching career, Mr. Friedlander is also an USA Hockey certified coach.
