Event Description

How does one approach transfer students in a supportive manner? What nurturing guidance is needed for both the student and parent? How does one rebuild the foundation with care? What greatest challenges exist when inheriting a transfer student? This five-hour seminar will address having a vision for a transfer student’s potential and discuss ideas for successful rehabilitation of a violinist’s left hand and right hand/arm. Participants will be asked to submit photos and/or a 2-5 minute video clip of any basic LH/RH concerns for feedback.

Targeted participants: Violin teachers with a current studio
Prerequisites: ECC/Unit 1

Trainer Information

Christie Felsing received her Bachelor of Music in violin performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying violin with Vartan Manoogian and pedagogy with Marvin Rabin. After a year of graduate studies at Boston University, including Suzuki teacher training, she pursued a nine-month Suzuki internship with Doris Preucil at the Preucil School of Music. This experience led her to complete a Master of Music degree in Suzuki pedagogy at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with John Kendall. From 1996-2014, she was on the violin faculty of the Preucil School of Music, where she served as Assistant Director. Christie is a registered SAA Violin Teacher Trainer, teaches in the Hartt Suzuki Program, and leads long-term Suzuki pedagogy courses at the University of Hartford. Her service to the SAA includes: Board of Directors (2004-2009), SAA Conference Coordinator (2010), and the Teacher Development Advisory Committee.
