Piano Revisiting Unit 1

Event Description

The Revisiting Piano Book 1 course is designed for teachers who have registered a minimum of Piano Unit 1 and have at least one year of Suzuki teaching experience.

The objective is to strengthen and update one’s teaching by approaching the repertoire and its concepts from a fresh perspective. Discussions cover the application of the Suzuki philosophy, teaching points in Book 1, layering of skills, addressing the challenges of the beginning student, and more.

The format of the course includes lecture, small group discussion, student observation, possible role-playing, and playing demonstration of the teaching points and concepts.

Entrance Requirements:
- Suzuki teachers who have completed or registered for ECC! and Piano Unit 1 (or 1A and 1B)
- Suzuki teachers who have taught for at least one year.

Fee: $350.00

Dates: The course will be held on August 26-29, 2017. Class times are:
Saturday—1-6:30pm (includes a 30min break)
Sunday—10am-4pm (includes a 1h lunch break)
Monday—10am-3pm (includes a 1h lunch break)
Tuesday—10am-3pm (includes a 1h lunch break)

Trainer Information

Marina Obukovsky

Marina Obukovsky received her MM cum laude in piano performance, chamber music, and pedagogy from Kharkov Conservatory, Ukraine.
Ms. Obukovsky currently holds positions at the School for Strings, where she is a Chair of Piano Department and Teacher Trainer, directing long- term Teacher Training Piano Seminar, as well as Faculty at the Mannes College of Music Preparatory Division. Ms. Obukovsky completed her Suzuki training with Sheila Keats, and some supplementary pedagogy courses with Mary Craig Powell.
In demand as a clinician and teacher, Ms. Obukovsky has given numerous workshops and masterclasses in New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Maine, Vermont, Texas, and Bermuda. At the 15th Biennial Suzuki Conference she has given a master class on new piano repertoire. She has taught at the International Festivals in Germany, Italy and Hungary.
A dedicated teacher, Ms. Obukovsky maintains a full studio of pianists ranging from beginner to pre-college level.
