I have a student who is very interested in learning the first movement of the Korngold violin concerto. This is not a concerto I have studied. I’m just wondering what level teachers here would consider it appropriate for. If anyone reading this is familiar with the first movement of the Korngold concerto, can you give me a work or two of comperable difficulty. For example, is it on par with Bruch, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky? Thank you!

I’d say Mendelssohn. How long has your student been playing?

Wow, I posted this ages ago. Thanks for your feedback. The student is 16, has been playing since age 5, and is currently working on the first movement of the Bruch concerto. Maybe we will work on Korngold next year.
