Creating http://www.myviolinrecital.com has been a really fun project.

Many have turned to YouTube to post videos. As a teacher I have used it as a tool during lessons. Kids just love seeing other kids performing the same songs they are working on. In the Suzuki philosophy—observeration is key!

However—In searching YouTube I have been frustrated by inappropriate images for children, and searching can take a long time.

http://www.myviolinrecital.com features student recital videos and teacher demos. Although videos are hosted on YouTube, they are viewed on myviolinrecital.com and screened from anything inappropriate. Student recitals can be searched by Performer, Composer, or Suzuki Book making searching quick and easy. Videos are viewed on a black screen with purple curtains which is really appealing and was my way of really honoring the hard work and dedication students put into their performances.

The MyTeacher component of the website is specifically for teachers to post supportive material for their students. My own teaching videos are set up so kids can play along with me at home and practice more effectively. I’m looking forward to the many creative ways teachers will use this website.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions!

Diane, what a great website! Well thought out, well executed, and just the kind of thing I’ve been looking for!

I will definitely recommend this to students!

Thank you Lindsay! I appreciate the feedback! The entire website project has been super fun.

My students are using the practice demos quite a bit and their parents are happy with the results. I’ll be curious to see the practicing progress made during winter break at lessons this week!

My students’ recitals have been shared widely with their friends and family. Kids put in so much time and care to prepare for a performance and then the performance happens within a few minutes and all the sudden it’s over. The kids are learning a lot from capturing their performance on video and being able to re-experience it. They’ve also been using the videos to watch each other and get familiar with music they’ll learn in the future.

Thank you for sharing this info. with your students!
