Hi Gabriel,

I am a big fan of the Bach double too. I think for me, one of the best things about having been a Suzuki student is that I adore Bach. I still get a thrill out of playing the Bach double in a group with other Suzuki players, even though I learned it almost 30 years ago!

Bach wrote the Bach Double and his other violin concertos during a time in his life when he was employed by Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cothen (1717-1723). The prince played the viola da gamba, and he himself played in Bach’s orchestra. I love to think about what it must have been like for Bach and Prince Leopold to hear this beautiful music being performed in the chapel for the first time.

If you don’t own a recording of the Bach double that has all three movements, see if you can buy one. You will love it.

Kirsten

Translation: (Sorry, I couldn’t resist a reply in Spanish :D )…greetings from Connecticut! We’re a Puerto Rican family in exile…my son is 9 and on the Vivaldi Concerto in Book 4; my daughter is 4 and mid Book-2. We’ll be in San Juan in August and if you have any suggestions for things we can do relating to the violin or music in general, they’re welcome…

Also, the Bach Double is our favorite as well and the possibility of playing it some day has kept us going through the hard times…I can’t wait to hear my kids play it together some day…also, I’m on Lully Gavotte—maybe someday I’l be able to play with them as well ;-)
