The Western Springs School of Talent Education (WSSTE) and Naperville Suzuki School (NSS) are nationally recognized Suzuki programs serving students from beginning through pre-professional levels. Our collaborative, student-centered environment emphasizes musical excellence, artistry, and joyful learning through individual lessons, chamber music, ensembles, and performance opportunities.
We are seeking a collaborative pianist who enjoys working with young string musicians and wants to become an important member of our artistic faculty.
We split the Pianists Job into two positions: Pianist A and Pianist B. You can apply for one or for both.
Pianist A
This individual will cover all solo recitals, group classes in our concerts, and book recitals only between Western Springs y Naperville Suzuki School. This position requires background in accompany Suzuki Books 1-10, and advanced Violin and Cello repertoire. All students playing for a recital during the year are allotted one free 15 minute rehearsal (part of salaried hours), longer rehearsal needs are compensated with hourly rate. Every 40 hours worked for salaried events accrues 1 hour of paid time off.
Pianist B
This individual will cover performing ensembles only for WSSTE/NSS. Western Springs location. This position requires the ability to play many styles of music, and ability to accompany ensembles. Salaried position with some opportunities to earn hourly income ($60/hour). Every 40 hours worked for salaried events accrues 1 hour of paid time off.
Deberes:
Pianist A- Solo Recital Pianist and Suzuki School Pianist
Recitals (salaried)
- Up to three recitals per month, block out 1:30-5:30 pm (maximum 4 hours)
- October, November, February, March, May
Coachings (extra hourly income**)
- In preparation for solo recitals
- Will need to meet anywhere between 15-50 students in a given time frame, depending on the season and location.
Friday Masterclasses (salaried)
- Usually takes place 7:30 pm-9:00 pm the first Friday evening of the month.
- 7-8 masterclasses per year
Group class concerts, books only (salaried)
- School wide showcase of all books and ensembles.
- Group rehearsals in preparation, twice per year, 4 hours each
- 2 group concerts per year, 3 hours each
Book recitals (extra hourly income**)
- Students that finish a Suzuki level (book 1, book 2, etc…) may give a short private recital.
- Date, time and location to be determined between teacher and pianist based on availability.
Miscellaneous events/student competitions (extra hourly income**)
- 10-15 hours per year for coachings and event time
Additional paid opportunities include:
- Individual recital coachings/rehearsals beyond the 15 minute rehearsals for recitals (ex: a student needs a 45 minute coaching, they would get 15 minutes from their tuition, and pay additional hourly for the remaining 30 minutes).
- Competition, festival, recording, or other preparation
- Miscellaneous performances and special events
Total estimated hours per year
~80 hours salaried and ~120 hours hourly pay
Pianist B- Ensemble Pianist (Allegro, Consort, and Cellissimo)
- Allegro (salaried)
- Intermediate dancing violin choir
- Meets nearly every Sunday afternoon 1:30-4:30 pm, October until May
- Consort (salaried)
- Advanced violin choir
- Meets nearly every Wednesday evening 7:30-9:00 pm, late August until June.
- Cellissimo (salaried)
- Advanced cello choir
- Meets Tuesday evenings but needs piano irregularly, roughly 1-2 a month for 30-60 minutes
- Coachings (extra hourly income**)
- In preparation for auditions, either to be admitted into the group or to earn a solo for an upcoming program
- Group class concerts, ensembles (salaried)
- 2 group concerts per year
- School wide showcase of all books and ensembles.
- 3 hour run time but only 30 minutes maximum of performance for ensemble.
- Tours
- Domestic and international tours every other year in the summer. (e.g. Consort summer 2026, Allegro spring 2027, Consort summer 2028, etc…).
Total estimated hours per year
~240 hours, plus one tour
Cualificaciones:
Pianist A
Facility of repertoire ranging from Suzuki to Concerti/Sonatas
- Suzuki books 1-10 for violin, viola, and cello school
- Staple string sonatas and concerti (e.g. Bruch Violin Concerto, Barber Violin Concerto, Mozart Violin sonatas and concerti, Saint-Saens Cello Concerti, Brahms Cello Sonata, Beethoven Cello Sonatas)
Basic knowledge of string instruments.
- Tuning and intonation
Ability to conduct individual rehearsals and work effectively with students ages 5 to 18 years.
Pianist B
Facility of intermediate to advanced string solo and ensemble repertoire for strings:
- Staple sonatas and concerti (e.g. Bach Double Violin Concerto, Shostakovich Cello Sonata (1st mvt), Shostakovich 5 pieces, Chopin Cello Sonata (Andante), Moszkowski Violin Duo (3rd mvt), Sarasate Navarra, Piazzola Death of the Angel, etc…)
- Ability to play other styles of music, such as tangoes, bluegrass, fiddle, broadway, pop, and more. Most of the music is all written out, so no improvisation is needed, although it would be helpful in this position.
- Ability to conduct individual rehearsals and work effectively with string students ages 9 to 18 years.
Salario:
Pianist A: $7,500 salary ($208.33 per week, total salary paid over 36 payrolls, ) + $60/hr coachings as additional income Pianist B: $16,750 salary ($465.42 per week, total salary paid over 36 payrolls) + $60/hr coachings as additional income + tour compensation includedBenefits: Can choose to be on our school health insurance plan (rate is before taxes) Paid Time Off: You get 1 hour of Paid Time off for every 40 hours worked, however you must always supply a viable and appropriate substitute for missed events. We kindly ask that you make our large school performances a priority, and if you need to miss for any reason, that it would be approved by the Director well ahead of the event date.
