Description: The Academy of Music (AOM) is a non-profit community music school established in 1991, based in Norfolk, VA and serving all of Hampton Roads, including Virginia Beach. Hampton Roads is home to the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Opera, and major arts festivals. The Suzuki community provides a biannual workshop along with community performance events and touring opportunities. As such, there are many local opportunities for both teaching and performing. The AOM Suzuki Strings Program currently offers instruction in violin, viola and cello, with excellent studio growth potential.

Duties: Join our established and growing program to teach Suzuki violin and viola students (Pre-Twinkle to Advanced). Teaching responsibilities includes weekly private lessons and group classes, as well as participation in studio recitals, group class concerts, and community events. The Academy of Music Suzuki Program offers two 17-week semesters, plus a summer session scheduled at the instructor’s availability. Additional teaching opportunities may include parent education workshops, early childhood (through our Prezuki program), and summer camps. Teachers are compensated for faculty planning meetings and any additional administrative work.
Qualificações:
Qualifications: Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree (or comparable) in music, and SAA registration through Violin Unit 2 with an expectation of continuing Suzuki teacher training. Preference given to advanced training (Book 5+), education, and teaching experience. Applicants must have strong commitment to Suzuki philosophy, and teaching and character references are required.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate for private lessons and group classes, as well as financial assistance to continue Suzuki teacher training
