Violín Unidad 1

13 de enero de 2025 - 21 de enero de 2025

Suzuki methodology is used in multiple ways in private studios as well as in public and private schools. Successful models feature repertoire memory and review, small step sequenced instruction and a curriculum based on mastery learning.  Effective models embrace the Suzuki philosophy and foster a positive learning environment for every child. The success of the Suzuki approach has inspired individuals to structure entire school curricula to reflect the tenets of the methodology. Most often associated with private studio teaching, this approach has also been implemented in homogeneous and heterogeneous instrumental classes. This course will outline the teaching points of the methodology while also providing historical context and discussions related to effective teaching and learning. The sequenced repertoire in Suzuki Violin Book I will be presented, and opportunities for transfer to other learning situations will be discussed. Steps towards the development of music literacy and aural and interactive ensemble skills will also be explored. Effective learning sequences that focus on the development of excellent fundamental technique will be the focus of each class session. Through specific study of this approach and the associated repertoire, participants will acquire a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of learning, and practice outlining sequences of instruction that effectively change student thinking and behavior.  This course will not only allow participants to foster their own technique on a stringed instrument, but foster a growth in understanding fundamental principles of human learning in the context of developing intellectual and motor skills.
