Presented with dual-delivery (Some take course fully online, some take it fully in-person).

Teaching strategies is our chance to look at how we can communicate and relate all of the pedagogical ideas that we have learned to students and caregivers. We will spend time looking at my teaching videos and each others.

Book 1 is required before taking this course.
Teaching Strategies is required to take Book 3.
Course Fee:
$300.00 (there is a minimum of 4 participants enrolled to run the course)
$50.00 discount if you took Book 1 with me in 2025.
$60.00 discount for international participants due to the exchange rate

Course Requirements:

(This course will not be able to be registered with the SAA unless all of the following requirements are met)

  • Attendance – mandatory attendance at all sessions for course completion.

  • Video Submissions

    • 6-10 minutes in length – you can submit two shorter lessons if that is a better fit for you.

    • Submit to Mark Mutter [email protected] as a YouTube link.

    • How students learn new music – Rote – Audiation – Eye
    • Breaking a concept down
    • Working on tone
  • Teaching Videos – each participant will submit one 6-10 minute video or two shorter videos and the class will watch the video(s) and discuss

    • Review and Graduation List Expectations
    • Using positive language when making corrections or observations
    • Setting your students up for success
  • Lesson Structure
    • Using repetition in a lesson
    • Using review in a lesson
    • What to teach and when to introduce it
