Cello Unit 7 “Ready to FLY!” completes the intermediate Suzuki cello curriculum and centers on the development of personal artistic voice. At this level, our focus is on guiding students to use their technical skills intentionally — shaping tone, color, phrasing, vibrato, and bow articulation to serve musical meaning. Emphasis on interpretive independence, lesson language, practice strategies for artistic goals, and supporting motivation as students approach advanced study. Participants refine teaching approaches that help students make musical decisions with confidence and clarity.

This six-week course meets

Tuesdays from 8:00 am to 10:30 am (Pacific) from January 26 through March 9, 2027 with the exception of 2/23 (SAA Leadership Conference, Chicago).

The performance practical occurs outside of class.

Requirements: 100% attendance; 15 hours of class; 8 hours of observation; play book from memory; synthesis exam; book report.

Online observations and the book report are to be completed BEFORE the first class.

Designed for long-term training but may be taken as a stand-alone course.
