A. FOLLOWING THE SAA TEACHER DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES:
- Respond to requests for information from the SAA in a timely manner.
- Keep SAA membership current and Teacher Trainer dues paid on time.
- Utilize the newest approved SAA syllabus in planning your courses.
- Maintain a regular pattern of participation and service to the SAA (see Continuing Education Guidelines for options).
- Attend Teacher Trainer meetings and SAA-related events.
- Fulfill Continuing Education requirements as specified in the Teacher Trainer Manual, submitting summary forms on time (currently due every five years: 2015, 2020, 2025, etc)
- Be the link between the Teacher Workshop Participant and the larger Suzuki world. Serve as the pipeline of information for Teacher Workshop Participants and set the tone for the TWPs’ whole Suzuki experience.
- Note: Any problems and/or infractions incurred by Teacher Trainers will be reviewed by the Executive Director and/or the Board Chair and the Suzuki Training Committee. Teacher Trainers who do not observe the requirements will receive warnings for the first two infractions from the SAA. A third infraction will result in being removed from the Teacher Training Registry. If reinstatement is desired, it will be necessary to reapply.
B. SERVING AND SUPPORTING SAA PROGRAMS AND GUDELINES:
- Participate in the recommendation and review process for Teacher Trainer applicants and Certificate of Achievement applicants.
- Be willing to mentor new teachers and new Teacher Trainers.
- Honor the SAA Code of Aspirational Ethics. With trust and respect, meet your responsibilities to Dr. Suzuki (the ISA), the development of the method, the SAA, your colleagues, your Teacher Workshop Participants, your students, and yourself. Reflect upon how the Code influences your actions as a professional Teacher Trainer.
C. RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE WORLD AT LARGE:
- Serve as a supportive spokesperson for Suzuki whenever possible.
- Maintain an awareness of and respect for other approaches to Suzuki teaching, as well as current trends in music education.
- When using copyrighted materials, seek proper permission and credit the source appropriately. See Music Library Association on Copyright Law in Trainer Manual for further information.
D. STEPPING BACK/RETIREMENT:
- Teacher Trainers who do not wish to remain on the Trainer Registry are requested to notify the SAA office to be removed from listings. If reinstatement is ever desired, former Teacher Trainers need to reapply through the current process.
- Teacher Trainers over age 65 who have served as a Teacher Trainer for 15 years or more and who are no longer doing Teacher Training may request to be listed as “Trainer Emeritus” and be exempted from the annual Trainer registry fee. A “Trainer Emeritus” may notify the SAA office and request reinstatement. Trainer registry dues will once again be required.
- Teacher Trainers, ages 65 and older, who have served as an active Teacher Trainer for 15 years or more and no longer actively training but wishing to remain on the Registry for whatever reason, may request to do so. They must continue to pay member and Trainer dues but will not be required to complete the Continuing Education Update forms.
