Maren Elliott is a dynamic visual artist and musician. Her work reflects her enduring passion for creative expression, while her teaching style reflects her broad interdisciplinary background encompassing psychology, world music, and movement .

Maren began playing viola at the age of four, and continued mastering this instrument under the tutelage of Aaron Au during her university years. In 2012, Maren became a certified violin and viola instructor and lifetime member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Since then, she has pursued continuing education as a Suzuki teacher through training courses in Canada and the United States. In 2014, Maren spent several months studying music in Ghana, during which time she gained an appreciation for non-western approaches to both education and art. She went on to sing, drum and dance as a part of the University of Alberta’s West African Music Ensemble. In 2016, she completed her B.A. with distinction in Psychology and Music from the University of Alberta.

An enthusiastic performer and lifelong student of the arts, Maren loves teaching the Suzuki method but also understands that there is no one-size-fits-all approach, especially when nurturing a child’s musical ability. Maren is devoted to teaching and finds it enriching to help students develop self-awareness and expressive tools through music, and evolve into nuanced and mature performers. It is her belief that joy in music can be developed at any age.
