Cate Howard began her undergraduate studies at the New School of Music, Philadelphia, and completed her degree program at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in violin performance and pedagogy. She continued graduate work studying with Jascha Brodsky, Christiane Hutcap and Igor Ozim. Cate received her Suzuki training from Linda Fiore, Teri Einfeldt, Christophe Bossuat, Ronda Cole, and Linda Case. She has been an active teacher and performer in South Africa, the New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania areas, Germany and Boston. Cate has been the director of the String Arts School of Concord MA since 1994, and in 2001 joined the faculty of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. Since 2005, Cate has played and organized numerous African benefit concerts for the building of clinics, improved education opportunities, and the prevention of AIDS. In 2007, she received the Daniel Orjiako Foundation Award. Cate has training in Brain Gym, Reiki, and practices Vinyasa Yoga. In November 2008 she published her first book How the Violin Plays the Violinist (available through www.violinistbook.com). In 2010, Cate was awarded the MA ASTA “studio teacher of the year”.
