Edmonton Suzuki Flute and Recorder Society

Kathleen Schoen is the Music Director of the Edmonton Suzuki Flute and Recorder Society, and was also co-director of the Alberta Summer Suzuki Institute for 2010. She has been instrumental in developing a parent orientation program that is used co-operatively by several different Suzuki organizations in the Edmonton area. She has been one of the Recorder Co-ordinators for the 2008, 2010, and 2012 Conferences. She also teaches flute and recorder at the University of Alberta, Augustana campus. She performs on flute, baroque flute, and recorder, both as a soloist and with the Schoen Duo. Her early music specialty training includes study with members of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik, Musica Antiqua Koln, Red Preist, Ensemble Caprice, and Les Boreades de Montreal, among others. Yet her musical interests are varied, and she has performed modern pieces for flute and electronics on the same program as historical period pieces.
