Event Description

Will meet for 14 Mondays from 12:00 to 2:15. Outside observations must be arranged with the teacher trainer in Newton, in Falmouth or at the MA Suzuki Festival in March 2014. A final take home written exam will be required to successfully complete this course.

Prerequisite course:

Every Child Can!, or Filosofía

Audition: Violin Basic, or Violin Intermediate, or Violin Comprehensive, or Viola Basic, or Viola Intermediate, or Viola Comprehensive.

Deadline: All audition materials must be submitted by February 17 *

Carol Sykes

Carol Sykes is the founder and director of the Young People’s String Consort and the Massachusetts Suzuki Institute. She is a founding member and past president of the Suzuki Association of Massachusetts. In 1967, Carol studied for one year with Dr. Suzuki in Matsumoto, Japan. She has taught Suzuki violin for 50 years, is a SAA teacher trainer, and was first to introduce the Suzuki Method to the New England States. Carol received her B.M. and M.M. degrees from New England Conservatory of Music and studied at Tanglewood on scholarship for five summers, studying violin, chamber music, choral music, and conducting. She was on the faculty of NEC, Dana School of Music, Cape Cod Conservatory of Music, and the public schools of Weston, CT, and pioneered Suzuki programs in Newton, Lincoln, Sudbury, and Falmouth, MA. Carol currently teaches at the Suzuki School of Newton, MA and the Sandwich Montessori School.
