Description:
Wayland School of Music is a thriving school with high local visibility and a reputation for excellence, in a town that values music education. Enrollment grows from Early Childhood feeder classes, local endorsements, word-of-mouth and consistent marketing.
We offer Suzuki violin, viola, cello, flute, piano and guitar. We serve about 250 families, including 70 – 80 Suzuki families. Parent training and observation are required for new families. There is no other full Suzuki program nearby.
Duties:
VIOLIN: Take over existing studio of 5+ hours in summer or fall ’25, mostly intermediate students (not all Suzuki).
Add new students, Suzuki and traditional. Day(s) open to discussion. Viola ability a plus.
PIANO: Teach private lessons and group classes (depending on teacher’s availability). We have great need of a Suzuki teacher, but willingness to teach both traditional and Suzuki students a plus (and will increase enrollment).
For both: Prepare students for twice-yearly recitals and other community performances.
Possibility of advanced students and chamber music coaching.
Qualifications:
Suzuki registered through Book 2 minimum (higher preferred);
8 -10 years professional teaching experience;
Strong performance skills and credits;
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, on-the-spot creativity;
Commitment to continued growth as teacher and musician;
Willingness to be part of a team.
Salary:
Current, 2024-25 (but there will be a small increase in Sept ’25, as usual): Private lessons $59/hr; chamber music 64.50/hr; group classes $70.25/hr. We reimburse 50% for further Suzuki training. Attendance/makeup policies emphasize respect for teachers’ time and professionalism, and are firmly upheld.
