Description: The Washington Conservatory of Music (WCM) is one of the fifteen nonprofit community music schools in the U.S., nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Precollegiate Arts Schools (ACCPAS).  Located in historic Glen Echo Park, MD, WCM provides lessons and group classes to students of all ages, year-round, with outstanding performing artist faculty.  Founded in 1984, WCM presents free professional community concert series, a free monthly concert series at a retirement community, and provides free music classes to children of immigrant and underserved families in Washington, DC; Montgomery County, MD; and the broader region through our Tapestry Music Outreach Program.  The organization hosts several ensembles including the Washington Conservatory of Music Community Orchestra, the Accord Symphony Orchestra, and the Capital Horns, among others.

The Suzuki Academy at WCM currently offers instruction for violin, viola, and flute, and is currently growing to better serve the needs of the community! We are looking to hire both cello and piano faculty, as well as someone with SECE training, who have availability during the weekends and during the week.

Duties:

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

– Teach private Suzuki lessons at two campuses in the metro DC area as well as group class opportunities, including recruiting students.
– Commit to a consistent teaching schedule and maintain regularity with lessons with limited interruptions or absences.
– Provide a professional, warm, and enthusiastic learning environment to all students as well as communicating with students and family members about progress and goals through semester progress reports and as needed.
– Encourage and offer student performance opportunities within the studio and at WCM as well as maintaining knowledge about musical opportunities and offerings at WCM and externally to enhance the student experience.
– Demonstrate a commitment to collaborating with faculty colleagues and WCM ensembles through performances and musical events.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: 

Candidates should have three or more years of teaching experience, a Bachelor of Music degree (Masters preferred), be an active member of the SAA, and have at least units 1–4 registered with the SAA (long-term training preferred).

Salary:

Salary: Compensation starting at $55/hour and negotiable based on experience. Tuition reimbursement offered for ongoing SAA training.
