Violin Unit 1

This course provides students with skills and resources needed to teach beginning violin to students using the Suzuki method. Topics include parent education, beginning set-up, learning by ear, early-level group class planning and teaching, observation strategies, recognizing and teaching musical and technical skills appropriate to young children at the book 1 level, teaching points of the Suzuki Book 1 repertoire, strategies for teaching music notation and reading, and setting up a private studio. Students will become conversant with the philosophical ideas presented in Nurtured by Love, by Shinichi Suzuki. Required course materials are Nurtured by Love, by Shinichi Suzuki, and the Suzuki Violin Book 1 repertoire book and related reference recordings. Students must become members of the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Join us for an immersive learning experience at the Blue Lake Suzuki Family Camp. In addition to coursework and observations, participants will have the opportunity to perform with the faculty orchestra and engage in camp activities.
