Cello Unit 8 “Dancing Notes & Dazzling Images” addresses the early advanced student, where technique supports vivid musical imagery and refined artistic expression through interesting and varied repertoire. This course will help teachers focus on guiding students to shape tone, articulation, phrasing, rhythm, and character with intention and stylistic clarity. Emphasis includes teaching for artistry, advanced practice strategies, musical form, and the connection between sound, movement, and imagery. Technical routines embrace a wider variety and the progression of etudes will be discussed. Unit 8 prepares teachers to support students as they move fully into advanced study—bringing music to life through dancing notes and dazzling images.

This six-week course meets Tuesdays from 8:00 am to 10:30 am (Pacific) from March 23 through April 27, 2027.

The performance practical occurs outside of class.

Requirements: 100% attendance; 15 hours of class; 8 hours of observation; play book from memory; synthesis exam; book report.

Designed for long-term training but may be taken as a stand-alone course.
