Welcome to Unit 1! In this hands-on course, you will learn strategies and approaches to set up your students from the very first lesson. Our journey from the start to the end of Book 1 will lay the foundation for your approach to pedagogy, repertoire, technique, and developing artistry, from the most beginning levels.

In addition, we’ll discuss a variety of topics, including setting up your studio business, teaching segments, reading, group classes, and much more. This course is designed to provide you with support and mentorship for your professional development, and create community with colleagues.

Additional Scheduling Info

This ten-week course meets on Tuesdays from 8:00 am to 11:00 am (Pacific) from September 9 through November 18, 2025 EXCEPT for 10/28.

Three 15-minute performance practicals are scheduled, two occur outside of class on Tuesday 10/21 and 11/11; the third is a video submission.

Requirements: 100% attendance; 28 hours of class;15 hours online observations; two book reports; two synthesis exams; performing the book from memory; two written assignments. 

Reading of Nurtured by Love and Ability Development from Age Zero to be completed BEFORE the first class.

Online observations to be completed by 11/4.
